Momo is a little bear cub in a sunny playground sandpit. “The bucket is mine!” she says, and hugs it tight. The ball is mine, the truck is mine, too. Her friends Bunny and Duckling look sad, and Momo sits alone with all the toys. Mine, mine, but no fun. So Momo shares the bucket, then the ball, then the truck, and together the three friends build a big sandcastle.

The new words in this book
It belongs to me, and I keep it. It comes up 6 times, and every time Momo grabs a toy and hugs it close: the bucket, the ball, the truck, and the whole pile of toys.
Give some to a friend, play with it together. It comes up 10 times: the bucket, the ball and the truck hop from Momo’s paws to her friends, the three dig a sandcastle together, and on the toy page your child shares every toy.
Made for children just starting kindergarten, when “Mine!” is one of the loudest words at the sandpit. Each page has one short sentence (3 to 6 words) in one pattern: “The ball is mine!” / “Momo can share the ball.” Only one word changes, so a child can say the page with you by the third spread. Every other word is one a 4-year-old already knows, like ball, bucket, truck, fun and castle.
Questions to ask while you read
Pause after each spread and ask one question. There are no right answers; the point is to get your child talking.
- 1Who has the red bucket now? How does Bunny feel?
- 2Where is the ball going? Is Duckling happy?
- 3Momo has the bucket, the ball and the truck. Who has no toys?
- 4Is Momo having fun all alone? Why not?
- 5What does Momo give to Bunny? Can you hold out your hands like Momo?
- 6Who gets the ball? Where does the ball bounce?
- 7Where does the truck go? Say “Vroom!”
- 8What are the friends making together? How big is it?
- 9Tap a toy. Is it Momo’s, or does she share it?
- 10What do you like to share with your friends?

Tips for parents
- First time: use Read to me and just enjoy the pictures together. It takes about a minute and a half.
- Act the words: hug your arms tight on “mine”, hold your hands out on “share”.
- Read it again and pause before the last word of the first pages, so your child can say “mine!”
- After reading, share one real toy together and say the page: “I can share the ball.”
