Beep is a little yellow bus in a small sunny town. Beep, beep! Go, little bus! The traffic light turns red, so Beep stops. Green light, go! Mama Duck and her ducklings cross the road, so Beep stops again and waits. Two kids wave at the bus stop, hop on, and ride up, up the hill to the park. At dusk, Beep drives home, stops, and falls asleep.

The new words in this book
Not moving any more, standing still. It comes up 8 times, and every time something on the page really stops: Beep brakes with a jolt and a puff of dust at the red light, for the ducks, at the bus stop, at the park and at home.
Start moving and drive off. It comes up 7 times: Beep rumbles off on green, drives past the ducks, climbs up the hill, and on the play page the bus, the car, the van, the kids and the duck all go.
Made for children just starting kindergarten. Each page has one short sentence (3 to 6 words) in one pattern: “Red light! Stop, little bus!” / “Green light! Go, little bus!” Only the first words change, so a child can say the page with you by the third spread. Every other word is one a 4-year-old already knows, like red, green, light, bus, ducks, kids, up and home.
Questions to ask while you read
Pause after each spread and ask one question. There are no right answers; the point is to get your child talking.
- 1Where is Beep the bus? Can you say “Beep, beep!”?
- 2What colour is the light? What does Beep do?
- 3The light is green now. Stop or go?
- 4Who is crossing the road? Why does Beep stop?
- 5Can you wave bye-bye to the ducks?
- 6Who is waiting at the bus stop?
- 7Is Beep going up or down the hill?
- 8Where do the kids want to play?
- 9Tap the bus, the cars, the kids and the duck. Stop or go?
- 10Where does Beep sleep at night?

Tips for parents
- First time: use Read to me and just enjoy the pictures together. It takes about a minute and a half.
- Play traffic light: hold up a red thing for “stop” and a green thing for “go”, and your child freezes or walks.
- Read it again and pause before “stop” or “go”, so your child can look at the light and say the word.
- On the play page, let your child say “Go!” before each tap and “Stop!” on the next one.
